German Renaissance painter. Born in Augsburg, he studied under his father Thomas and then under Schongauer in Alsace. In 1495 he traveled to Italy, where he acquired clear composition and a sense of space, establishing a unique style based on the traditions of German late Gothic art. ドイツ・ルネサンスの画家。アウクスブルクに生まれ，父トマスに学んだのちアルザスでションガウアーに師事。1495年イタリアに旅行し明快な画面構成と空間感覚を獲得，ドイツの後期ゴシック芸術の伝統を基にして個性的な様式を確立した。代表作に《パトモス島のヨハネ》（1518年，ミュンヘン，アルテ・ピナコテーク蔵）などがある。
