Livestock dealer - Cattle dealer

Japanese: 家畜商 - かちくしょう

This refers to businesses that buy, sell, exchange, and broker livestock such as cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, and goats. In the past, they were called "bakuro" (horse trader, barbarian) or "hakuraku" (horse enthusiast), and they had the ability to distinguish the quality of livestock and were involved in the trade by intervening in the distribution process of livestock. In order to become a livestock dealer, under the Livestock Dealership Law, both individuals and corporations must obtain a license from the prefectural governor. To do this, they must attend a livestock dealer training course and obtain a certificate of completion. In addition, when starting a business, they are required to deposit a business security deposit with a deposit office.

ウシ，ウマ，ブタ，ヒツジ，ヤギなどの家畜の売買や交換･斡旋の事業を営むものをいう。古くは〈ばくろう(馬喰，博労)〉とか〈はくらく(伯楽)〉とも呼ばれ，家畜の良否を見分ける眼を持ち，家畜の流通過程に介在してその取引に関与する。家畜商となるには，家畜商法により個人･法人を問わず都道府県知事の免許を受けなければならない。そのためには家畜商講習会を受けて修了証明を取得する必要がある。また開業にあたっては営業保証金を供託所に供託することが義務づけられている。
