Maison Carrée (English spelling)

Japanese: メゾン･カレ（英語表記）Maison carrée

An ancient Roman temple in almost perfect condition in Nîmes (ancient name Nemausus), southern France. The name means "square house" in French. It was completed around 4 AD. It was dedicated to Augustus' adopted sons, Gaius Caesar and Lucius Caesar. It is a pseudo-peristyle temple of the Corinthian order with six columns on the front, and stands on a platform 2.8 m high, 14.8 m wide, and 31.6 m deep. Although the scale is different, it closely resembles the Temple of Mars Ultor (Mars) in the Forum of Augustus in Rome, and became the model for Roman temples in Gaul.

フランス南部，ニーム(古代名ネマウススNemausus)にほぼ完璧な状態で残る古代ローマの神殿。フランス語で〈方形の邸〉の意。西暦4年ころ完成。アウグストゥスの養子，ガイウス･カエサルとルキウス･カエサルに献堂された。正面6柱，コリント式オーダーの擬似周柱式神殿で，高さ2.8m，幅14.8m，奥行き31.6mの基壇の上に建っている。規模は異なるが，ローマのアウグストゥスの広場にあるマルス･ウルトル(マルス)神殿と酷似しており，ガリアにおけるローマ神殿の手本となった。
