Founded in 1917 by eight individual brewers in Noda, Chiba Prefecture, as Noda Shoyu. Changed name to Kikkoman Soy Sauce in 1964, and to the current name in 1980. No. 1 in the nation with a 30% market share for soy sauce. The brand, which dates back to the Edo period's Kikkoman, has overwhelming name recognition. They also produce sauces, alcoholic beverages, and food. Head office in Noda City, factories in Noda, Takasago, and others. They are also active in developing overseas markets, with soy sauce production bases in the United States, Singapore, China, Taiwan, and the Netherlands. Capital in 2011 was 11.5 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 283.4 billion yen. Sales breakdown (%) is as follows: domestic food manufacturing and sales: 53%, domestic and other: 3, overseas food manufacturing and sales: 15, overseas food wholesale: 30. Overseas sales ratio: 44%.
