...Through these experiences in Milan, the cultural center, Parini gradually broke away from the influence of the Arcadian school and leaned towards the Enlightenment that was spreading in Europe at that time. In 1757, he wrote the prose poem "Dialogue on the Nobility" as his first literary expression. In this work, two dead men, a nobleman and a poet, buried in the same cemetery, have a dialogue about the privileges of the nobility, and reach a conclusion in which they confirm the fundamental equality of human beings. The ideas that flow in the background of this work are inherited in his masterpiece "A Day". This masterpiece is a long poem consisting of four parts: "Early Morning" (1763), "Midday" (1765), "Twilight" and "Late Night" (both unfinished and published in 1801), and while it takes the form of a tutor instructing his young student, a nobleman, on how to spend his day, it exposes the emptiness, corruption and vices of aristocratic society. ...
