A theater in Moscow, Russia. It was founded in 1964 in the liberalized atmosphere following the criticism of Stalin, by director Lyubimov and young actors who graduated from the Vakhtangov Theater University. As socialist realism was gaining ground, the theater boldly revived and developed the methods of Soviet avant-garde art from the 1920s, such as those of Meyerhold, which had been criticized for being formalistic, and developed theatrical activities that harshly criticized the current situation by reviewing communism from a perspective that went back to its origins, and its theatrical vitality has attracted worldwide attention.
