Isotonic contraction

Japanese: 等張力性収縮 - とうちょうりょくせいしゅうしゅく（英語表記）isotonic contraction

This refers to muscle contraction when the force (or load) applied to the muscle remains constant during the muscle contraction. Generally, it refers to the contraction when a constant weight is placed on the muscle and the muscle lifts it up and shortens, but strictly speaking, the condition of a constant load is not met due to the inertia of the weight. Therefore, to actually perform isotonic contraction, the inertia of the experimental equipment must be as small as possible. In this case, muscle shortening is recorded by fixing one end of the muscle and connecting the other end to a lever, and recording the movement of the lever.

筋肉の収縮中筋肉に加わっている力(あるいは荷重)が一定に保たれている場合の筋肉の収縮をいう。一般には，筋肉に一定のおもりをかけておき，筋肉がこれをもち上げて短縮するときの収縮をいうが，厳密にはおもりの慣性のため荷重一定という条件がみたされない。したがって，実際に等張力性収縮を行わせるには実験装置の慣性をなるべく小さくしなければならない。この場合，筋肉の短縮は筋肉の一端を固定し，他端をレバーに接続して，レバーの動きで記録する方法が用いられる。
