?‐625 King of the Pallava dynasty in South India. Reigned from 600 to 625. He was active in many fields, including politics, art, and literature. He expanded his rule to the Krishna River basin, strengthening the power of his dynasty, but clashed with the emerging Chalukya dynasty, which sparked a long conflict between the two dynasties. He was a Jain, but converted to Shaivism in Hinduism under the influence of the saint Uppal. The rock caves at Mahabalipuram, representative of the Pallava architectural style, were built during the reign of this king.
