A former town in Shida County, central Miyagi Prefecture. The Tohoku Main Line runs through it. The plains from the south to the northeast are rice paddy areas, producing high-quality rice varieties such as Sasanishiki and Hitomebore. Shinai Swamp, located in the south, has been reclaimed since the Edo period and turned into rice paddy fields. Mutual markets are held in the spring and autumn. In March 2006, Osaki merged with Furukawa City, Matsuyama Town and Sanbongi Town in Shida County, Iwadeyama Town and Naruko Town in Tamazukuri County, and Tajiri Town in Toda County to become a city. 54.05 km2 . 宮城県中部,志田郡の旧町。東北本線が通じる。南部から東北部の平地は水田地帯で,ササニシキ,ひとめぼれなどの良質米を産する。南部にあった品井沼は江戸時代から干拓が続けられ,水田化した。春と秋に互市(たがいち)が立つ。2006年3月,古川市,志田郡松山町,三本木町,玉造郡岩出山町,鳴子町,遠田郡田尻町と合併し市制,大崎市となる。54.05km2。1万3941人(2003)。
