Chin-guk (English spelling)

Chin-guk (English spelling)
The name of a country that is said to have existed in the southern part of ancient Korea. The name Jin already appears in the Records of the Grand Historian and the Book of Han, but the Records of the Three Kingdoms, Wei Zhi, "Biography of the Eastern Barbarians," contains a somewhat more detailed record of the country's contents. However, the records in the Records of the Three Kingdoms are extremely fragmentary and contain contradictions, so there has been no consensus among scholars about the existence and nature of this country since ancient times. Shiratori Takuji believes that Jin means Jinhan, and that King Jin was the King of Jinhan. Mikami Tsuguo also interprets King Jin as the monarch of a kind of tribal confederation that was established in the southern part of the peninsula around the 2nd or 3rd century.
