Kurogi [town] - Kurogi
An old town in Yame County in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture. Most of the area is lava plateau, with a small basin upstream the Yabe River. The central settlement developed as a castle town in the Middle Ages and a market town in the early modern period. Rice, tea, and mandarin oranges are produced, and lumber is produced here. The town is home to Kurogi Fuji (a natural monument) and Reiganji Temple, said to be the birthplace of Yame tea. In February 2010, it was incorporated into Yame City along with Tachibana Town, Yabe Village, and Hoshino Village in Yame County. 135.49 km2 . Population 13,615 (2005).
