Awakuni - Awanokuni

Japanese: 粟国 - あわのくに
Awakuni - Awanokuni

[Ancient times]
Kami Province (Engishiki) belonging to the Nankaido. Before the Ritsuryo system, Awa was divided into two major provinces: Awanokuni in the north, where the Inbe clan was active, and Naganokuni in the south, where the Miwa-related Ama fishermen were active. There is also a theory that there are three Awa provinces, which considers another province to the west of the upper reaches of the Yoshino River.
