Masatake Abe

A feudal lord in the early Edo period. Son of Masayoshi and the daughter of Makino Nobunari. In July 1677, he inherited the former domain and became the lord of Musashi Province's Oshi Domain (Saitama Prefecture) with a fief of 80,000 koku. He was stationed in the Karasuma room. When Tokugawa Tsunayoshi became the 5th shogun in 1682, he was appointed as the soshaban (councillor) and temple and shrine magistrate in the intercalary August, and served as a senior councilor for 24 years from March 1681 until his death, helping Tsunayoshi govern. In 1683, he was involved in the distribution of various laws governing the samurai class, and in 1686, he served as the sobugyo (major for compiling the Butoku Taisei-ki), in 1698, he served as the sobugyo (major for re-coining silver coins), and in 1704, he served as the sobugyo (major for rebuilding the Yushima Seido Hall). During this time, he was granted an additional 10,000 koku each in 1683 and 1687, bringing his fief to 100,000 koku. He also organized the land of the Oshi clan, established the legal system, and carried out major repairs to the castle, working to establish the clan's system. 江戸前期の大名。正能と牧野信成の娘の子。延宝5(1677)年7月遺領を襲い,武蔵国忍藩(埼玉県)8万石の藩主となる。雁の間詰め。8年徳川綱吉が5代将軍になると,閏8月には奏者番,寺社奉行兼帯,天和1(1681)年3月から死去するまで24年間老中として,綱吉の治世を助けた。3年には武家諸法度の頒布に携わり,貞享3(1686)年には『武徳大成記』編纂の惣奉行,元禄11(1698)年金銀改鋳の惣奉行,宝永1(1704)年湯島聖堂再建の惣奉行を務めた。この間,貞享3年,元禄7年に各1万石加増され10万石を領した。また,忍藩の所領の整理,法制の整備,城郭の大修築を行い,藩体制の確立に努めた。学問好きで知られ,儒者三宅尚斎を招き藩内に文武を奨励,将軍綱吉の前で『論語』を講じた。<参考文献>川澄次是編「公余録」1,2(児玉幸多校訂『阿部家史料集』1巻)
