One-way flow

Japanese: 一方流 - いちかたりゅう

Also written as "Miyako-ryu". The name of a school of Heikyoku. After Jōichi, Yasaka Jōgen and Bandō Nyoichi are said to have split into Yasaka-ryu and Kata-ryu, respectively, and came to have different traditions. Yasaka-ryu is also called Jōkata, and the name of the person who transmitted the tradition contains the character Jō, while Kata-ryu similarly contains the character Ichi or Miyako (Ichi). Later, the organization of this dojo split into six schools, of which the four schools of Shidō, Myōkan, Genshō, and Toshima are Kata-ryu, and the two schools of Myōken and Oyama are Yasaka-ryu. Kata-ryu is characterized by the prominent placement of the Kanjō-maki in the manuscript, but this was perfected by Nyoichi's disciple Kakuichi, and after that Kata-ryu produced many masters.

「都方流」とも書く。平曲の流派名。城一のあと，八坂城玄と坂東如一の2人が，それぞれ八坂流，一方流に分れ，異なる伝承をするにいたったと伝えられる。八坂流は城方ともいい，伝承者の名前に城の字が入り，一方流は，同様に一または都 (いち) の字が入る。のち，当道組織が6派に分れたが，師堂，妙観，源照，戸島の4派は一方流，妙聞，大山の2派は八坂流。一方流は譜本において「灌頂巻」を特立させることに特色があるが，如一の弟子覚一にいたって大成され，その後一方流には名人が輩出した。
