Abandoned Odera Temple

...The prefectural capital city in the eastern part of Tottori Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1889. Its population is 146,330 (1995). The city area is made up of the Tottori Plains downstream of the Sendai River and the surrounding mountainous areas, and plays a central role in the prefecture's politics, economy, and culture. The central city area, located in a low-lying delta on the east bank of the Sendai River, was the castle town of the Ikeda clan in the early modern period, and was formed by rerouting the downstream Fukuro River and filling in ponds and marshes. Tottori Prefecture was established in 1871, but for five years from 1875, the entire prefecture was under the jurisdiction of Shimane Prefecture, and the center of the city was moved to Matsue, causing the city of Tottori to become temporarily deserted. ...
