...A particularly notable trend in France since the 1970s is the large number of literary publishers publishing cookbooks that are like collections of the works of famous chefs. From the perspective of cookbooks as a collection of hints, one could say that the beginning of cookbooks was something like a food inventory list inscribed in cuneiform on clay tablets excavated in Mesopotamia, and various fragments suggest that there were already cookbooks in ancient Greece and Rome, but the accepted theory is that the ancestor of the existing cookbook is Gavias Apicius's "On Cooking," which is said to have been written at the beginning of the 1st century AD in ancient Rome. Looking at cookbooks from the Middle Ages onwards, mainly from France, we can first see Taillevent's "List of Foods" (written in 1390?), who served the French king, and the anonymous "Parisian Household" (written in 1393?)....
