A politician in the early Heian period. The second son of Minister of the Right Uchimaro. When the future Emperor Saga became the crown prince, he was appointed Crown Prince Daishin and Crown Prince Suke, and was highly trusted, and was promoted rapidly after the emperor ascended to the throne. When the Kurodo (Kurodo) was first appointed in March 810 (Daido 5), he also served as Kurodo To (Kurodo no To), and after the Kusuko Incident in September of the same year, he was promoted to Shikibu Taifu (Shikibu Taifu) and then to Sangi (Councillor) the following year. He was promoted steadily thereafter to Minister of the Right, and after Emperor Junna ascended to the throne, he was promoted to Minister of the Left, and was involved in important government affairs during the Saga and early Junna eras. He was also ordered by the emperor to compile the Dairi Shiki and Konin Kakushiki (Kōnin Kakushiki). His son Yoshifusa married Princess Kiyohime of Emperor Saga, and their daughter Junshi became the consort of Emperor Ninmyo and gave birth to the future Emperor Montoku, thus forming a strong blood relationship with the Imperial family and laying the foundation for the rise of the Northern Fujiwara clan. On the other hand, he also worked hard for the prosperity of the Fujiwara clan as a whole, building the Nanen-do Hall at the clan temple Kofuku-ji and founding Kan'in. He lived in the vast mansion Kan'in and was called the Left Minister of State. He died on July 24, 3rd year of Tencho, and after Emperor Montoku ascended to the throne, he was posthumously awarded the title of Grand Minister of State because he was his maternal grandfather.
