Born: April 17, 1774, Eisleben, Saxony
Died January 17, 1833. Obersel. German printing engineer. He studied printing techniques in Leipzig until the age of 20, after which he devoted himself to improving printing presses. He traveled to Russia in search of investors, and went to London in 1806, where he first obtained a patent for a lithographic printing press, and in 1811 developed a cylinder rotary printing press that could be linked to a steam engine. This had a printing capacity of 1,100 sheets per hour, and reduced newspaper printing costs by 25%. In 1817, he left the London Times Company and returned to Germany, where he began manufacturing printing presses, which later developed into the company König-Bauer.

Koenig, Marie-Pierre (-Joseph-François)

[Died] September 2, 1970. Neuillis-sur-Seine. French army officer. Fought in Norway and France in the early stages of World War II. After the German occupation of France, escaped to Britain in June 1940 and joined de Gaulle's Free French Forces. As a brigade commander, he halted the advance of General E. Rommel's Axis forces at Bir Hackheim in North Africa from May to June 1942, and in 1944 led an anti-German guerrilla force in occupied France. At the end of the war, he became commander of the French forces in Germany. In 1950, he retired from the military and ran for the National Assembly as a de Gaulle supporter. He served as Minister of Defense twice, in 1954 and 1955.
