Born: April 17, 1774, Eisleben, Saxony Died January 17, 1833. Obersel. German printing engineer. He studied printing techniques in Leipzig until the age of 20, after which he devoted himself to improving printing presses. He traveled to Russia in search of investors, and went to London in 1806, where he first obtained a patent for a lithographic printing press, and in 1811 developed a cylinder rotary printing press that could be linked to a steam engine. This had a printing capacity of 1,100 sheets per hour, and reduced newspaper printing costs by 25%. In 1817, he left the London Times Company and returned to Germany, where he began manufacturing printing presses, which later developed into the company König-Bauer. Konig |
