Mount Furano - Mount Furano

A volcano located in central Hokkaido, straddling Furano City and Kamifurano Town. Its elevation is 1,912 meters. It is a stratovolcano formed in the southwestern part of the Tokachidake volcanic group, resting on a vast base of welded tuff. The mountain's body is mainly composed of andesitic lava, and the upper part of the eruption is rich in colored minerals such as peridotite. In addition to the 100-meter-diameter crater at the summit, there is another 250-meter-diameter crater to the northeast and another 500-meter-diameter crater on the western slope. The Genshigahara marshland spreads from 1,000 to 1,600 meters above sea level on the southern foot of the mountain. It is included in Daisetsuzan National Park, and there is a hiking course from Tokachidake Onsen on the northern foot of the mountain to the summit, which takes about three hours.

北海道中央部、富良野市と上富良野町とにまたがる火山。標高1912メートル。十勝岳火山群(とかちだけかざんぐん)の南西部に形成された成層火山で、広大な溶結凝灰岩の基盤にのり、山体は安山岩質溶岩を主とし、上部の噴出物は橄欖(かんらん)岩などの有色鉱物に富む。頂上部の直径100メートルの火口のほか、その北東に直径250メートル、西斜面に500メートルの火口がある。南麓(なんろく)の標高1000～1600メートルの地に原始ヶ原の湿原が広がる。大雪山(たいせつざん)国立公園に含まれ、北麓の十勝岳温泉から頂上まで約3時間の登山コースがある。
