Fu Bao Shi (English name)

Japanese: 傅抱石 - ふほうせき（英語表記）Fù Bào shí

1904‐65
Chinese painter. Born in Xinyu County, Jiangxi Province. He studied in Japan at a young age and graduated from the Imperial Art School (now Musashino Art University), majoring in the history of Oriental art. In 1935 he became a professor at the Department of Fine Arts at the National Central University, and served as vice chairman of the Artists Association and director of the Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Painting Academy. Heavily influenced by Shi Tao and Mei Qing, he created fresh works with novel compositions based on deep observation of nature and outstanding ink painting. His art collection includes "Collection of Paintings by Fu Baoshi," and his art treatises include "Theory of Chinese Painting" and "Chronology of Master Shi Tao." [Endo Koichi]
