Imiki

Japanese: 忌寸 - いみき
Imiki

It was the fourth-ranked surname in the eight-class surname system established in 684 (the 13th year of Emperor Tenmu's reign). In the following year, Kimi was given to the kuni no miyatsuko (provincial governors) of Kinai, such as Yamato (Nara Prefecture), Oshikouchi (Osaka Prefecture), Yamashiro (Kyoto Prefecture), and Katsuragi (Nara Prefecture), as well as the Kinosakahito and Osumi (Kagoshima Prefecture), as well as powerful clans of immigrant origin, such as Naniwa, Yamato no Aya, Kawachi no Aya, Hata, and Fumi. Eventually, Kimi was given to many members of the same family as the Hata and Han clans, and it became a common surname among clans of immigrant origin.
