1882‐1954
Essayist, art critic, and philosopher born in Barcelona. In Japan, he is referred to as Doles. He studied in France and, together with Ortega y Gasset, was a pioneer intellectual in 20th century Spain, advocating participation in European intellectualism. He used the pen name Xènius and is best known for his commentary in Catalan, Glosari, written in 1906-14. He was also a central figure in the Catalan Regional Government Office presided over by Prato de la Riva, and served as director of the Catalan Institute (founded in 1907) for ten years from 1911.

バルセロナ生れの随筆家，美術評論家，哲学者。日本ではドールスと紹介されている。フランスに留学し，オルテガ･イ･ガセットとならんでヨーロッパ的知性への参加を標榜（ひようぼう）する20世紀のスペインにおける知的先駆者。ゼニウスXèniusのペンネームを使用し，1906‐14年にカタルニャ語で書いた時評《語録Glosari》が代表作。また，プラト･デ･ラ･リバが主宰するカタルニャ地方行政院の中心的人物であり，カタルニャ研究所(1907創立)の所長を1911年から10年間務めた。
