This essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the inflorescences of plants such as lavender, which belong to the Lamiaceae family, with an oil yield of 0.7-0.85%. Concrete (1.5-2.2%) can be obtained by solvent extraction, and absolute (absolute flower oil) (50-60%) can be obtained by alcohol treatment. The essential oil components are linalyl acetate, linalool, 3-octanone, and lavandulol. The main production area of ​​this plant is France, but it is also cultivated in Italy, the UK, the former Soviet Union, Australia, North America, Japan (Hokkaido), and other countries. The quality of lavender oil is determined by the linalyl acetate content, and commercially available products are available in various grades with the linalyl acetate content clearly indicated.

Lavender oil is an important fragrance ingredient and has many applications in perfumes, lotions, colognes, pomades, soaps, etc. The concrete and absolute are effective in face powders, bath salts, shaving creams, etc.

シソ科の植物ラベンダーなどの花穂の水蒸気蒸留により収油率0.7～0.85％で得られる精油。また、溶剤抽出によって1.5～2.2％のコンクリートが得られ、アルコール処理により50～60％のアブソリュート（絶対花精油）が得られる。この精油成分は酢酸リナリル、リナロール、3‐オクタノン、ラバンジュロールである。この植物の主産地はフランスであるが、イタリア、イギリス、旧ソ連地域、オーストラリア、北アメリカ、日本（北海道）などで栽培されている。ラベンダー油の品位は酢酸リナリルの含有量によって定められ、市販の商品には酢酸リナリル含有量を明示してあり、種々の等級がある。

　ラベンダー油は重要な香料であり、香水、化粧水、オーデコロン、ポマード、せっけんなどのあらゆる分野に広く応用される。コンクリートおよびアブソリュートは、おしろい、バスソルト、ひげそりクリームなどに用いて効果がある。
