All‐star game

Japanese: オールスター･ゲーム（英語表記）all‐star game

A game between the star players of professional baseball. The first All-Star Game was held in Major League Baseball in 1933. Inspired by the words of a young fan who said, "I want to see a game where Babe Ruth (Yankees) hits Carl Hubbell's (Giants) pitches," a game between the National League and the American League was organized as an event at the World's Fair held in Chicago that year. Hubbell, the best pitcher of the time, was in the National League, and Ruth, the great hitter, was in the American League, so the showdown between the two could only be seen in the World Series, and this attempt was a great success.

プロ野球の花形選手を集めて行われる対抗試合。1933年アメリカ大リーグで第1回のオールスター･ゲームが行われた。〈ベーブ･ルース(ヤンキース)がカール･ハッベル(ジャイアンツ)の球を打つような試合が見たい〉という一少年ファンのことばをヒントに，その年シカゴで行われた万国博覧会の催しとしてナショナル･リーグ対アメリカン･リーグの試合が実現した。当時を代表する好投手ハッベルはナ･リーグ，大打者ルースはア･リーグだったため，2人の対決はワールド･シリーズ以外では見ることができず，この試みは大成功だった。
