…分類上この群は原始的なサケ型と進化したスズキ型との中間に位置するが，櫛鱗（しつりん）をもち，上あごが前上顎骨のみで縁取られ，主上顎骨には歯がなく，ひれに棘条（きよくじよう）が発達し，眼窩蝶形骨（がんかちようけいこつ）を欠き，腰帯の前端が擬鎖骨に付着するなどの諸点でスズキ型により近いとされる。サケスズキ科Percopsidaeではサケ型に似て腹びれが腹位にあり，あぶらびれを備え，痕跡的ながらうきぶくろと食道をつなぐ気道も残っている。ただし，背びれとしりびれには弱い棘条がある。…
