Amido means a net place or net place, and probably refers to a net (standing net) fishing ground. Amido and amichi are also synonymous. Amido-mochi refers to the owner of a net fishing site, specifically the person with the right to profit from it. In the case of Izu Uchiura during the Edo period, amido often referred to the profit-making rights of half a net group (one of two large net groups). The amido-mochi has the profit-making rights (divided into a stock) and also pays the amido floating duties according to their share ("Mamezu Uchiura Fishermen's Materials"). In the case of Nishiura, Eri village had two amido sites, Seto and Raikaido, and four amido groups, each named after a tsumoto (a person who controlled the net fishing, often a descendant of the developer of the amido, a representative of the amido-mochi), would operate the two amido sites in two shifts (dividing the four net groups into two groups, east and west), and two amido groups would operate one amido site in one shift.
