Ishikawa no Iratsume - Ishikawa no Iratsume

Japanese:
Ishikawa no Iratsume - Ishikawa no Iratsume

A poet in the Manyoshu. There are many people who are written as Ishikawa no Otome (Joro) in the collection, and it has been a subject of debate since ancient times whether they are the same person, but the most reasonable theory is that they are (1) the person who exchanged names with Kume no Zenji during the reign of Emperor Tenchi (661-671), (2) the person who exchanged names with Prince Otsu and Prince Kusakabe during the reign of Empress Jito (686-697), and (3) the person who exchanged names with Otomo no Tanushi and Otomo no Sukunamaro during the reign of Emperor Mommu (697-707). (1) shows skillful love dialogue, (2) is interesting as a love story between two princes against the backdrop of political conflict, and (3) is full of the social interest of the exchange of poems themselves. (1), (2), and (3) are considered to be typical of love poems from each era.
