A Greek sculptor from Sicyon, he was a representative artist of the Argos-Sicyonian school in the second half of the 4th century BC. According to Pliny the Elder, he produced over 1,500 sculptures, including many statues of Hercules and Alexander the Great, with a style that was entirely based on contemplation of nature. Existing copies include the Farnese Hercules at the Naples Museum of Art and the athlete statue Apoxyomenos (Man Scraping Off Sweat and Mud) at the Vatican Museum.
