Even in the 16th century, there was a debate over whether gonorrhea and syphilis were caused by the same poison, but this debate was put to an end when the German Albert L. Neisser (1855-1916) discovered the gonococcus at the end of the 19th century. It seems to have existed in Japan for a long time, and it is believed to have existed even before syphilis was introduced to Japan via India, China, and Korea in the early 16th century. ...
