...A scholar from the mid-Joseon period in Korea. Also written as Yun Seong (Insen). His pen name was Hizung and his pen name was Baekho. He was from Namwon and was a leader of the Namin faction. Born in an era of internal and external troubles, he experienced the humiliation of his nation in his impressionable youth (the Byeongja Rebellion and the ceremony at Sandan-do), and afterwards he did not take the civil service examinations, instead devoting his life to learning. His brilliant intellect and bold disposition were displayed in both the theoretical and practical aspects of his research into the Classics (the issue of mourning for the imperial family). In particular, his independent attitude of not following Zhu Xi's theories and instead forming his own theory led to him being attacked by Song Siyeol of the Western faction as a "Simun rebel," and he met a tragic end. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Yun Baek Lake" is listed below.
