A small city in the Creuse department in the northern part of the Massif Central in south-central France. Facing the Creuse River, it is 74 km east-northeast of Limoges. Population 4,662 (1999). Since the 15th century, it has been famous as a producer of tapestries and carpets. It is home to the National School of Decorative Arts and the Museum of the History of Tapestry.
