A general term for arthropods belonging to the genus Epanerchodus , family Polypedidae, class Diplopoda. Body length 2-3 cm. It has 20 body segments and 31 pairs of legs. Its purplish brown or brown dorsal plate is flat and sticks out to the side like a canopy. The upper surface of each dorsal plate has three rows of tiny carved patterns, making it easy to distinguish it from other millipedes. It has no eyes. It usually lives in the fallen leaves of forests and grasslands, but there are white species that live specialized in caves and feed on organic matter such as bat droppings.
