A former town in Miyako County, eastern Fukuoka Prefecture. It occupies the alluvial plains of the middle reaches of the Harai River. It was the site of the Buzen provincial capital. Rice is the main crop, but the town also produces vegetables, orchards, and livestock. The Heisei Chikuho Railway runs through the town, and many people commute to Kitakyushu City. In March 2006, it merged with Saigawa Town and Katsuyama Town in Kyoto County to become Miyako Town in Kyoto County. Area: 19.34 km2 . Population: 9,043 (2003). 福岡県東部,京都(みやこ)郡の旧町。祓(はらい)川中流の沖積地を占める。豊前(ぶぜん)国府のおかれた地。米作を主体とし,蔬菜,果樹園芸,畜産も行う。平成筑豊鉄道が通じ北九州市への通勤者が多い。2006年3月,京都郡犀川町,勝山町と合併し町制,京都郡みやこ町となる。19.34km2。9043人(2003)。
