In 76, he was promoted to Kazusa no Kami. During the Tachibana Naramaro Incident (757), he was praised by the Otomo clan in a rare move and promoted to Junior Fourth Rank. The following year, as Yamatonokami, he submitted a memorial in which he inscribed 16 characters that had been carved by an insect into the roots of a wisteria tree at Kamiyama in Yamato County, which praised the powerful Fujiwara no Nakamaro of the time.
