The company's performance stabilized somewhat with hits such as The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) and Shane (1953), and in 1954 it developed VistaVision to compete with 20th Century Fox's CinemaScope (later, this system proved to be too expensive, and Panavision was adopted instead).The company continued to produce hits such as Rear Window (1954), The Ten Commandments (1956), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), Vertigo (1958), Psycho and Beckett (both 1960).However, with Hollywood in a severe recession, the company was absorbed by the large conglomerate Gulf & Western Industries in November 1966, and in 1967 a new subsidiary, Paramount Television Industries, was established to produce television films. The company subsequently brought in two producers in their 30s, former actor Robert Evans (who joined the company in 1966 as vice president of production) and former sales and publicity man Frank Yablans (president 1971-75), to head up the company, and enjoyed success with such hit films as Rosemary's Baby (1968), Love Story (1970), The Godfather (1972), Paper Moon (1973), and Chinatown (1974).However, in 1969 the distribution company Cinema International Corporation (CIC) was established, and by 1971 the overseas distribution divisions of Paramount and Universal had been merged, essentially resulting in a reorganization and rationalization of the company. Evans and Yablans left their jobs to become independent producers, seeking freedom of production without the constraints of conglomerates, but Paramount continued to produce hits such as Saturday Night Fever (1977), Grease (1978), and Heaven's Blessed Champion (1978).

…そのなかで，アカデミー賞に輝いた《我が道を往く》(1944)や《失われた週末》(1945)などの〈良心作〉も製作され，また，ボブ･ホープ主演の喜劇(《南米珍道中》(1947)などの《珍道中》シリーズ，《腰抜け二挺拳銃》(1948))が大ヒットしたりしたが，50年，独占禁止法によって製作･配給会社パラマウント･ピクチャーズと興行会社ユナイテッド･パラマウント･シアターズ･インコーポレーテッドに分割されて，企業としての力を弱め，この打撃とテレビジョンの脅威に耐えて，新しい喜劇コンビ，ディーン･マーティン=ジェリー･ルイスの《底抜け》シリーズ(1949‐56)や《サンセット大通り》(1950)，《陽のあたる場所》(1951)，《地上最大のショウ》(1952)，《シェーン》(1953)などのヒットによってやや安定し，また，54年に20世紀フォックスのシネマスコープに対抗してビスタビジョンを開発(のちに，このシステムは費用がかかりすぎることが判明し，代わりにパナビジョンを採用)，《裏窓》(1954)，《十戒》(1956)，《OK牧場の決闘》(1957)，《めまい》(1958)，《サイコ》《ベケット》(ともに1960)などのヒット作を出したものの，ハリウッドの深刻な不況のなかで66年11月，大手のコングロマリット，ガルフ＆ウェスタン･インダストリーズに吸収され，67年にテレビ映画製作の子会社パラマウント･テレビジョン･インダストリーズが新設された。　その後，俳優出身のロバート･エバンズRobert Evans(1966年に製作担当副社長として入社)，営業･宣伝マン出身のフランク･ヤブランズFrank Yablans(1971‐75社長)という30歳代のプロデューサーを首脳に迎えて《ローズマリーの赤ちゃん》(1968)，《ある愛の詩》(1970)，《ゴッドファーザー》(1972)，《ペーパー･ムーン》(1973)，《チャイナタウン》(1974)といった話題作を製作して成功するが，69年には配給会社CIC(シネマ･インターナショナル･コーポレーション)が設立され，71年までにパラマウントとユニバーサルの海外配給部門を統合，実質的な整理と合理化が行われた。エバンズとヤブランズは，コングロマリットに拘束されない自由な製作をめざして職を辞し，独立プロデューサーに転じたが，パラマウントはその後も《サタデー･ナイト･フィーバー》(1977)，《グリース》(1978)，《天国から来たチャンピオン》(1978)などのヒットを飛ばした。…
