Liang Shiyin (English spelling)
1869‐1933
A Chinese politician during the Republic of China. His courtesy name was Yifu and his pen name was Yansun. He was from Sanshui County, Guangdong Province. In the late Qing Dynasty, he was patronized by Yuan Shikai and held important posts in the transportation sector, such as Director General of the General Bureau of Railways and Acting Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, and built up a network of connections in the "transportation industry." Even after the establishment of the Republic of China, he served as Secretary General of the Presidential Office and Premier of the Bank of Communications, and supported Yuan Shikai's dictatorship financially, earning him the nickname "God of Fortune." After Yuan Shikai's death in 1916, he went into exile in Japan for a time, but returned to China in 1918 and rebuilt the "transportation industry." At the end of 1921, he was appointed Prime Minister with the support of Zhang Zuolin, but was ousted after only one month, and went into exile again during the Sino-Japanese War of 1922.
