In Japan, it is common for one person to play with several people who hide, while in Europe and the United States, many people chase while one or a few people hide and try to return home without being caught by the pursuers. In England, there are games similar to hide-and-seek called hide-and-seek, in France called cache-cache, and in Germany called Verstecken, and each has many variations. The English game ho-spy is so named because the person is called a spy, and murder is a modern version of hide-and-seek that incorporates an interrogation format borrowed from detective novels.
