...The most representative postwar survey is the Nationwide Academic Ability Survey conducted by the Ministry of Education from 1956 to 1966. Other surveys include the one conducted jointly by the Japan Teachers' Union and the National Institute for Educational Research (1976) and the "Survey on Learning Status and Attainment" by the National Institute for Educational Research (1976). International comparative surveys have also been conducted on mathematics (1964) and science (1970).
