This is a Koyasan Shingon sect temple located in Jike, Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is called Tenshukunzan Kakurinji Temple. It is said to have been founded in the Tenpyo era (729-749), but according to the Azuma Kagami, it was built by Hojo Tokimasa, the father of his wife Masako, to pray for victory when Minamoto no Yoritomo subjugated the Oshu Fujiwara clan in 1189 (Bun'ei 5). It later prospered as a temple for the Hojo clan, but was caught in fire during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attack on Nirayama Castle, and the entire temple was burned down, with only the principal image taken out. The principal image of the temple, the seated Amida Nyorai statue, the statues of Acala and two children, the two nameplates inside the body, and the standing statue of Bishamonten, were all made by Unkei in the early Kamakura period and are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The graves of Hojo Tokimasa and Ashikaga Chachamaru are located within the temple grounds.
