North's Regulating Act

North's Regulating Act
The Act was enacted in 1773 to establish a system for the British government to control and supervise the East India Company and its rule in India. After the Battle of Plassey and the acquisition of the Diwani (right to collect taxes), the East India Company, which started out as a commercial trading company, gradually began to function as an institution governing India, and the discipline of employees and improvement of the company's management became major issues. This regulatory act, created in response to this situation, limited the voting rights of shareholders at general meetings to those who held shares of at least 1,000 pounds for at least one year, and extended the term of office of directors to four years, thereby limiting the influence of employees who had returned from India on the board of directors and stabilizing the company's operations.
