Crank mechanism - crank mechanism

A linkage device in which the link next to the shortest link in a four-bar rotary mechanism is fixed, the link opposite the shortest link is removed, and one end of the link opposite the fixed link slides on the fixed link. The rotating shortest link is a crank, and the other end of the connecting rod connected to the part that makes circular motion reciprocates on the fixed link. It is also called a piston crank mechanism because it is used in steam engines and internal combustion engines when the reciprocating motion of a piston is changed to rotary motion by a crank. An example of this is a compressor that compresses the air in a cylinder by the reciprocating motion of a piston as the crank rotates, which is used not only when changing reciprocating motion to rotary motion, but also when changing rotary motion to reciprocating motion.

四節回転機構で最短リンクの隣のリンクを固定し、最短リンクに対するリンクを取り去り、固定リンクに対するリンクの一端を固定リンク上を滑るようにしたリンク装置。回転する最短リンクはクランクで、その円運動をする部分に連結されている連接棒の他端が固定リンク上を往復運動する。蒸気機関、内燃機関などで、ピストンの往復運動をクランクにより回転運動に変える場合に使用されるのでピストンクランク機構ともいう。往復運動を回転運動に変える場合だけでなく、回転運動を往復運動に変える場合にも使われる、クランクの回転によりシリンダー内の空気をピストンの往復運動で圧縮する圧縮機などがその例である。
