- Guitarist of X JAPAN, a band that gained popularity for its strong sound and unique image, centered around YOSHIKI (drummer/leader) and TOSHI (vocalist). In X JAPAN, he is written as HIDE. After playing in the rock band Saber Tiger, he became a member of the rock band X in 1987, playing guitar. In the same year, he participated in Victor's omnibus album "Skull Slash Zone", and PATA (guitar) and TAIJI (bass) also became official members, and as a five-member rock band, they actively performed live, breaking live house attendance records one after another, and in 1988 released their first album "Vanishing Vision". In March 1989, they made their major debut with the album "BLUE BLOOD" from CBS Sony, and swept all the new artist categories at various awards. After the debut tour, they went on hiatus. In August 1991, they released the album "Jealousy". In the same year, they made their first appearance on NHK's "Kohaku Uta Gassen". In January 1992, they held a three-day concert at the Tokyo Dome, the first Japanese artist to do so. In the same year, they signed a contract with Warner Music International in the United States, and as they made their way globally, they changed their group name from X to X JAPAN, and HEATH joined the group to replace bassist TAIJI, who had left the group. In 2005, they released the album "ART OF LIFE". Their hit songs include "Kurenai", "ENDLESS RAIN", "SAY Anything", and "Silent Jealousy". Due to differences in direction, TOSHI left the group in April 2009, and in September X JAPAN announced its dissolution, holding a dissolution concert on December 31st. Meanwhile, in 2004, they produced their own photo book "Mugon Geki". They also engaged in solo activities, making their solo debut in August 2005 with "EYES LOVE YOU" and "50%&50%". In January 2006, they released their third single "DICE", and in February, they released the solo album "HIDE YOUR FACE", for which they handled all vocals, guitar, and arrangements. In 2007, they went on their first solo tour. In 1988, his second album "PSYENCE" boldly introduced the latest technology and became a huge hit, selling over 600,000 copies. In February 2010, he formed two bands, hide with Spread Beaver with Japanese members and ZILCH with British members, but in May of the same year, he was found dead at his home in the middle of the night. He was only 33 years old. Approximately 32,000 fans attended his funeral and flower offering ceremony at Tsukiji Honganji Temple in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. In the same month, his posthumous single "Pink Spider" debuted at number one on the Oricon charts and became a million-seller, sparking a boom in his posthumous works. In October of the same year, his family denied the suicide theory, saying that he had been stretching to treat severe shoulder stiffness and migraines at the time of his death. In 2011, a tribute album "hide TRIBUTE SPIRITS" was released. In July 2012, a memorial hall and hide museum opened in Yokosuka City. In 2020, X JAPAN held a reunion concert at the Tokyo Dome, and a memorial event, the "hide Memorial Summit," was held at Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo.
