…American jazz pianist. At the age of 16, he formed a group with his brother, and began working as a professional musician after returning from the military in 1954. In 1958, he briefly joined Miles Davis' sextet, where he distinguished himself, and later made numerous records as a soloist, gaining popularity for his lyrical performances with delicate tones. His album Undercurrent, recorded in 1959 with guitarist Jim Hall, is highly regarded in Japan as a masterpiece. In the 1970s, he tried new things using the electric piano, but this was met with mixed reviews. …
