Unzan - Unzan

A town in North Pyongan Province, North Korea. It is the seat of Unsan County. It is known as a gold producing area, and the gold mine is located in Bukjin, upstream of the Guryong River, 19 km northwest of the town. The geology is Precambrian gneiss and porphyritic granite, and the deposit is a deep hydrothermal vein in the granitic rocks. Native gold is accompanied by pyrite. It is the largest gold mine in Korea, with a vein reaching 2,500 meters, and mining is carried out at three places: Gyodong Pit, Daeam Pit, and Jinho Pit. Unsan Gold Mine is an old gold mine that was first mined in 1895 by American Morse, who obtained mining rights from the Yi Dynasty government, and mining continues to this day. It is one of the largest gold mines in the Orient, with abundant reserves.

北朝鮮、平安北道(へいあんほくどう/ピョンアンプクド)にある邑(ゆう)(町)。雲山郡の所在地。金の産地として知られ、金鉱は町より北西19キロメートルの九竜江上流の北鎮にある。地質は先カンブリア紀の片麻岩(へんまがん)、斑状花崗岩(はんじょうかこうがん)などで、鉱床は花崗岩質岩石中の深熱水性鉱脈。自然金に黄鉄鉱を伴う。鉱脈2500メートルに達する朝鮮第一の金鉱で、採掘は橋洞坑、大岩坑、鎮後坑の3か所で行われている。雲山金鉱は1895年アメリカ人のモールスが李(り)朝政府より採掘権を得て初めて採掘した古い金鉱で、今日まで採掘が続けられている。埋蔵量の豊富な東洋屈指の金山である。
