Drake, S.

…In the United States, a boat with stage equipment and performers toured river towns. It is said that the first boat was the one led by Samuel Drake, who toured from Pittsburgh down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers to New Orleans in 1815. It flourished on both rivers and other rivers in the West until the beginning of the 20th century.
