Shogunzuka Tomb

Japanese: 将軍塚古墳 - しょうぐんづかこふん

There are ancient tombs called Shogunzuka or Shogunyama all over Japan. They are particularly concentrated in northern Nagano Prefecture, with notable ones in Gunma and Saitama prefectures as well. The origin of the names is unclear, but they are probably based on a different idea from the popular legend that the Shogunzuka Tomb in Ai, Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture is the tomb of Fujiwara no Kamatari, and the Shogunzuka Tomb on the summit of Higashiyama in Kyoto City is the tomb of Shogun Sakanoue no Tamuramaro.
[Senryu Shogunzuka Tomb]
A keyhole-shaped tumulus from the late 4th century located in Shinonoiishikawa (formerly Senryu Village), Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture. It is located at the top of a fault cliff that marks the western edge of Zenkoji Plain, and the northeast-facing tumulus is 93m long, with a circular rear part 45m in diameter and a front part 26m wide. It retains roofing stones and cylindrical haniwa clay figures.

将軍塚または将軍山と呼ぶ古墳は各地にある。特に長野県北部に集中し，群馬県，埼玉県にも著名なものがある。命名の由来は明確でないが，大阪府茨木市安威（あい）の将軍塚古墳を藤原鎌足の墳墓とし，京都市東山山頂の将軍塚古墳を征夷大将軍坂上田村麻呂の墳墓とする俗伝とは，おそらく発想を異にしたものであろう。

　長野県長野市篠ノ井石川(旧，川柳（せんりゆう）村)にある4世紀末の前方後円墳。善光寺平の西辺を画する断層崖の上部に位置し，北東面する墳丘の全長93m，後円部径45m，前方部幅26m，葺石（ふきいし）および円筒埴輪を残す。
