Japanese: 音曲噺 - おんぎょくばなし

〘Noun〙 A type of rakugo storytelling that incorporates shamisen and other musical instruments from the dressing room to enhance the story. It is said to have been started by the first Sen'yutei Ogibashi during the Bunka era ( 1804-18 ) in the Edo period. ※Rakugo: Neko no Tadanobu (1897) (Katsura Bunji VI) " In ongyokubanashi (musical storytelling), music naturally comes to the forefront of the story, and this is what musical storytelling is all about."

〘名〙話の効果として楽屋の三味線、鳴物をとり入れて演ずる落語。江戸時代、文化年間（一八〇四‐一八）、初代船遊亭扇橋が始めたといわれている。※落語・猫の忠信（1897）〈六代目桂文治〉「音曲話(オンギョクバナシ)とても其(その)通り話の内に自然と音曲を遣(や)らんければならぬ様になりまするのが是れが音曲話で」
