The driving force behind this modern (renaissance) era was the emergence of private presses, a uniquely British publishing style, represented by W. Morris's Kelmscott Press, Doves Press, Ashendene Press, and others. Their publications, printed on special paper and bound on vellum, were far more beautiful than previous publications, and aimed to achieve a certain ideal in books. …
