Children's Newspaper - Children's Newspaper

Japanese:
Children's Newspaper - Children's Newspaper
A newspaper that targets children as its readership. There are newspapers published by commercial newspaper companies aimed at children, and newspapers published primarily by children themselves. The former are characterized as a "children's version" of a general commercial newspaper, as adults select and provide information that interests children. In Japan, what came to be called "children's newspapers" began in the Taisho era, but initially they lacked the newsiness of newspapers and were more like magazines that focused on reading material. The development of mass media, the establishment of popular culture, and improvements in educational methods during the Taisho era had an impact on the world of children, such as the flourishing of children's literature and an increase in children's magazines, but they did not spread far enough to sustain a children's newspaper with newsiness.
