Located in Ibusuki District, Kagoshima Prefecture, this old town occupies the southeastern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula and faces Yamakawa Bay, an old submerged crater. During the feudal period, the main settlement was a port town for Ryukyu trade, and after the Meiji period it developed as a base for deep-sea fishing. It is also a base for bonito fishing and is a thriving seafood processing town. Vegetables and flowers are produced in the rural areas. There is Eel Pond, Nagasaki Nose, and Narukawa Onsen (pure salt spring, 52-90°C) on the west coast of the bay. The Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line runs through the town, and a ferry runs between it and Nejime Port on the opposite shore. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Kaimon Town, Ibusuki District, and Ibusuki City. 37.18 km2 . 10,884 people (2003).Yamakawa [town] [Yamakawa]Yamakawa [town] [Yamakawa]Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
